What Spring Cleaning Means To Sellers

#GRGCommunity

It’s that time again, Spring Cleaning! Time to shake off the winter grime and freshen things up a bit before summer arrives. If you are wondering where to begin, I would suggest getting started by calling the professionals. Go ahead and schedule an outside window cleaning and plan to have your HVAC system tuned up and cleaned. You should change out the filters in your air purifiers, test your smoke detectors and replace any old batteries or lightbulbs. Don’t forget to be prepared by stocking up on all your favorite cleaning products!

Next up, start a donation pile to help you declutter while cleaning and then make a list of what you plan to accomplish. A good rule of thumb is anything that you have not had time to get to in the previous 6 months should be on your list. If your list becomes overwhelming, try breaking it up into sections, and focus on 1 section at a time.

Now, if you are ready to get started, turn on your music for motivation, open your windows for fresh air and start scrubbing!

A few things on my spring-cleaning list are:

  • Clean inside of windows, windowsills & clean blinds.
  • Wipe down doors, light switches, molding and baseboards.
  • Dust light fixtures and ceiling fans.
  • Clean lamps and lamp shades.
  • Dust d√©cor, wall art and electronics
  • Wipe down drawers and kitchen cabinets, inside and out.
  • Clean oven and stove top.
  • Clean dishwasher.
  • Clean and organize pantry.
  • Clean and organize refrigerator and freezer.
  • Wash & sanitize counters, backsplash and sink.
  • Deep clean bathrooms.
  • Clean all mirrors.
  • Flip mattresses and wash all bedding and pillows.
  • Take down curtains (including shower curtains) wash and replace.
  • Wash down washer and dryer.
  • Clean dryer trap and the inside of the washing machine.
  • Wash all hard floors and shampoo and carpets

At this point you are ready to reap the rewards of your accomplishments. You might consider ordering in your favorite meal, spending some time in your squeaky-clean bathtub and enjoying a good night’s rest in your fresh bedding! You deserve it!

All of this work, in the end, is all for that perspective buyer. Sometimes, after living in a home for so long, it’s hard to have an objective view of what that buyer is really looking for. The best advice is to highlight the qualities of your home that you have come to love over the years. If you have a breathtaking view, make sure sprouting trees aren’t obstructing it. If you have acreage, make sure that it is landscaped and looking its best. If you had a sports court, put in for your kids, make sure that its pressure washed and moss free.

Overall, as a seller, you know what makes your home special. Know where the line between cleaning and maintenance is, be prepared to put in a few weekends aroundthe house, and your hard work will pay off when it comes time to sell.
