Fall in the Pacific Northwest is one of the most transformative and beautiful times of the year. Watching the trees change here is awe-inspiring, but the weather change that accompanies fall in the Northwest usually inhibits our ability to find any especially crunchy leaves to step on.

One thing we can share with the rest of the nation are our Halloween traditions though, and there is no shortage of spookiness around the South Sound. Pumpkins line the doorsteps of every neighborhood, spiderwebs and skeletons occupy the front yards, and in a few nights, little ghouls and witches will take over the streets.  

Most of my own personal memories of Halloween in Olympia as a kid are soggy ones, but that never once stopped my candy collecting quest. Amassing candy was a great way to improve your own status in elementary school, but I‚Äôve found that distributing it has a much more powerful and lasting effect. 

Halloween candy presents the opportunity to elevate your standing in the office, or in your neighborhood, the key is in understanding your audience. I would suggest finding out your boss‚Äôs favorite sweet and make sure you consistently have a few of those laying around. As for Halloween night, sometimes it‚Äôs quantity over quality with kids. I can still drive through neighborhoods that I trick-or-treated in years ago and point out the houses that handed out full sized candy bars.

Michelangelo said, "Every block of stone has a statue inside it and it is the task of the sculptor to discover it." I‚Äôm pretty sure the same is true with pumpkins. If you‚Äôre not at one of the local pumpkin patches, hand selecting the material for your masterful creation, you‚Äôre squandering your true potential. 

All kidding aside, there are plenty of local farms that can keep the whole family entertained through the fall season, including both haunted and un-haunted corn mazes, super slides, baby goats, and you guessed it, pumpkin patches. We have included a map of a few of the local farms in the area and highly recommend you take an afternoon out for fall festivities.
