Meet Stephen Dean. Stephen was born and raised in Perth, Scotland and made the move over to this side of the pond when he was around 24 years old. On June 9th 1966, Stephen and his good friend decided to do a two-year world tour. They made it as far as Canada before Stephen knew that his place was here on the West Coast.
“We were both very keen on skiing, so we spend the winter up at Whistler B.C., and that was the second year of our operation.”
His friend found his future wife at Whistler, she had just come over from Ireland. A few months later, Stephen found himself as the best man at their wedding. After their wedding, Stephen stopped off in Banff, whereupon he met his future wife Janis, who had just come over from Scotland.
“We still have family over in Scotland, so we go back every two or three years to visit loved ones and replenish the accent.”
Stephen studied and trained in architecture, so he always knew that he wanted to be involved in building or homes. He got his start working for a few architecture firms in Vancouver, and then began working for Moduline. At their height, they had thirteen offices but their expansion dropped off sharply as the industry declined. Stephen then had the opportunity to pivot over to residential real estate.
“I was fortunate, I got to work with a number of builders both in doing individual houses, as well as quite a number of subdivisions.”
Then, in 2006, Stephen met Jim Greene and made the switch to Greene Realty, which was in its first year of operation. Stephen has been with Greene ever since, and has just celebrated his 30th year in the real estate industry this year.
“It’s really neat when you’re working with a young couple, first time home buyers, and they’re getting the dream they never thought they could. Since I’ve been doing it for thirty years, I find that the young people I’m getting now, can end up being the grandchildren of the people I’ve sold a house to 30 years ago!”
