A Greene Story | 4 | Animal Rescue in Thurston County
#GRGStory
Greene Realty Group has some of the most genuine, selfless agents in the Northwest. Whether meeting the goals of a family in need, donating money to local organizations through the Greene Giving Fund, or volunteering their time with community organizations; Greene agents pride themselves in serving the community. One story that exemplifies the qualities of Greene agents is Deborah Dunham’s actions that saved over 20 abandoned animals in a foreclosed home.
In June of 2016, Deborah had the task of listing a foreclosed property. Listing a foreclosure is never an easy thing to do, but for Deborah, this time was especially difficult. Left abandoned on the property were 8 horses and 13 pugs. The animals had been left to fend for themselves on the 8-acre property. Living conditions were unimaginable. Deborah had to do something to help these animals.
“When I finally got access to the property, I found four Arabian mares, ranging in age from five to 20 years old, four Arabian stallions, from six to 13 years of age, 13 pug dogs, most with special needs, some blind and deaf and a fish.”
Deborah, an animal lover all her life, and experienced in horse care couldn’t stand the living conditions of the horses. Over the course of several days she brought out food for all the animals. Managing to build a relationship with the horses, she was able to transport them to her house to be cleaned and cared for until they found a new home. The pugs all found new homes within the week with the help of her friends and the community. Deborah had successfully saved these abandoned animals.
Within the following weeks, 4 of the 8 horses found new homes, and further after that 2 more. Today, Deborah lives with 2 of them, still seeking homes for them, but caring for them none the less. Sacrificing much of her time, and much of her money to care for these animals is something Deborah would do over and over again not just because she loves animals, but because she believes that community is stronger when people pitch in and do their part in bettering one another.
Greene agents have many stories like Deborah’s, and it really shows just how much the entire Greene firm cares about one another and the community they’re apart of.
